My 5 Fall Staples & How I Style Them

I have never really been one to purchase lots of super-trendy pieces. I always tend to stick to more classic pieces that I can wear for a few years and update each year by adding a new accessory or layer. Here and there I add new things into my wardrobe, but I always mix in those classics that never go out of style.

There are a few Fall Staples that I have acquired that I have been wearing on repeat this season. I consider them almost the “building blocks” of any fall wardrobe that can be worn over and over again and you can change the look by styling them differently, changing the color theme or by adding different accessories.

Here are my top Five Classic Staple Items for this Fall and if you treat them well, you will be wearing them for more Fall seasons to come!

Combat Boots

Combat boots have been around forever and are making a comeback in a BIG way this season! Every time they come back into style they change a little here and there but they generally all have a similar look. So if you take the plunge and purchase a nice pair now, you will definitely be able to wear them for a long time! A great investment!

The awesome thing about combat boots is that you can pretty much pair them with anything! You can go edgy street style, sophisticated with a blazer, casual with jeans, even wear them with a dress or skirt! The options are really endless.

I am loving this pair I just got from M. Gemi. They are so amazing! The leather is very soft and comfortable. The soles are thick and lug style, and the quilted leather detailing on the sides is so beautiful. Definitely adds some style and elegance to the boot instead of being very hard-edged.

Wool Trench

Another great staple that will NEVER go out of style! This does not have to be a huge investment but getting a nice quality coat will make it last a lot longer and it will stay new-looking for years to come.

This coat I am wearing is J. Crew from maybe 8 years ago but I still LOVE it and to me, every season I put it on, I feel like it’s new. This is a great coat that can be dressed up or down. Looks great with a hoodie and UGG boots or dressed up to the nines in heels and a dress. Also, super simple to throw on with jeans and get that easy, chic casual look.

Pop of Color Handbag

Since most of my Fall wardrobe consists of muted neutrals, I am loving this new Mini Maestra handbag that I recently bought from Senreve. This one is a gorgeous shade of aubergine purple and looks gorgeous in contrast to my khaki coat, and my many tan, beige, taupe and cream sweaters for fall. The color is not at all overwhelming and just a very complimentary color.

The bag itself if gorgeously made and very spacious. I love the fact that it is very durable and structured, since many of my bags are sort of slouchy. I like carrying this one as a satchel and love that it keeps its shape. The interior is also very soft, luxurious and roomy, with spaces for all of your essentials and more! The best part is that the long strap is fully-adjustable and the bag can go from satchel to crossbody to shoulder bag to backpack in seconds! I will definitely do a full blog post on this particular bag to show you more. I highly recommend this and if the purple is not for you, there are so many gorgeous leathers and shades to choose from here.

Pretty Tops for Layering

Sometimes the weather is strange in the fall, so I like to layer and be ready for anything. I normally will wear a tank or pretty basic tee under a cardigan or light sweater, this way if it is cold I can throw on another layer, but if I get warm I can take off the sweater and still look put-together.

I love this ruffle sleeve tee becasue it is casual, very comfy and can be worn alone or under a long open cardigan or Fall jacket. When you go inside then you are still looking classic in your pretty, casual tee, and not just a basic tee shirt.

Dark Denim

Obviously, denim is a staple of mine year round, but I tend to wear lighter denim in Spring/Summer and darker washed denim in Fall/Winter. I just feel that many times dark denim looks better with sweaters and fall accessories, at least on me.

When it comes to jeans and denim, I have tried numerous name brands and the brand that I have come to love and has ruined all other brands for me is Good American. Good American jeans are literally like wearing denim joggers for me. They are super stretchy and comfortable but have enough control to hold you in nicely and make your legs, butt and waist look amazing! Plus, many of the styles are higher wasited which I tend to find more comfortable these days. There are many different styles to choose from and I have not been disappointed with any style from this brand yet… each pair is more flattering than the next! Worth trying out!!
