Covid Life: At Home With the Kids

So we are right now living in a Coronavirus World. Schools are closed. Playgrounds closed. Zoos closed. Extra curricular activities cancelled. You get the point. Pretty much everything that made our life normal is now at a halt.

We are living in a new normal right now. Unchartered territory for many of us. We are scared. We are uncertain. But if you are a mom of young children like I am, we still have our children to tend to, care for, keep safe, and teach. It’s a lot. At first it all seemed a bit overwhelming, but I feel as though we are getting into a pretty good groove. I wanted to share what we have been doing on a daily basis and also share some of the activities that my kids have been loving. Some are learning activities and others are just for fun – but with young kiddos, you definitely have to have an arsenal of fun “up your sleeve” to keep them entertained throughout the day.

As for moms, I do have two main tips that I try to adhere to every day:

  • Get Yourself Dressed. Although staying in loungewear seems comfy, I find that when I stay in sweats all day I feel sort of lazy and unproductive. When I get myself dressed and do my makeup and hair, I feel ready to go and more energized and motivated to get stuff done.
  • Get Outside! As much as you can, even if it only for a walk around the block. Trust me, some fresh air does everyone some good!

Here is a loose schedule of how our day has been flowing. I did not really include times because I am not rigid about keeping a timed schedule but I do think it helps, at least in my opinion, to know what I am going to do next with my girls. I have been liking to do an outdoor walk before lunchtime. This gets us out into the fresh air and gets their bodies in motion to get some of the sillies out. Sometimes we make it a nature walk where we look for certain colors, or animals, or acorns, etc. Just adds a fun element to a plain old walk.

Although I do have a good amount of activities and craft items at home, last week I jumped on the internet to purchase a few more things. Amazon, Fat Brain Toys and Osmo are three great websites to. purchase playtime toys as well as learning games & activities for children of all ages!

Here are some of the items that I bought:

Also, I put together the below items that are some of our all-time favorite Boredom Busters, for older kids as well as younger children. Any of these items are sure to spark your child’s imagination as well as keep them learning & occupied all at the same time!

I hope everyone stays safe and healthy! And even though it’s difficult, enjoy this time at home with your family as much as you can!

XOXO, Nicole
