Ok mamas, let’s face it… we all know there isn’t nearly enough time in the day to get all of our stuff done! And this isn’t a post trying to say I’ve come up with some out-of-this-world plan to be super-organized and tell you how to accomplish everything you have on your plate. Actually, on the contrary, this is more about me venting and wondering if any of you might have some helpful tips for organizing your day to accomplish the so many things we Moms have to handle.
In the past, my head sometimes would spin just thinking about the amount of things that needed to get done. When I had a free hour without the kids, I couldn’t choose which task needed to be done first, so I would run around the house and not really get any one thing accomplished at all.
Does that sound familiar to anyone?
So then I began to keep a tight “Stuff To Do” list and I organized it by things I need to do “Today,” “This Week” and “Whenever I get around to it.” Each day I would move two or three things into my “today” section to try to get those things accomplished by the end of the day. Sometimes it worked and other times those things got bumped back down because something else popped up that took precedence. (Surprise, Surprise!) For the most part though, this was a pretty good system and kept my mind a little less cluttered because I was only really focused on what needed to get done that day, rather than stressing about ALL the things on my list.
With everything else I have going on and now taking on this blog, which I love but it takes up the majority of my night, last week, I decided to throw gardening into the mix (what am I thinking!?!?). So after the kids go to bed around 7, I would throw in my headphones and hit the yard to do some weeding, seeding, planting and working on a general overhaul of the mess that became my yard after all the bad winter storms. My yard definitely needs some TLC. I know what you’re thinking, get a freakin’ gardener, which we do have someone who takes care of our lawn but other than that I usually do the other stuff myself… for right now it’s more about being economical. Believe me, when I can, I will hire one of those landscapers to come and re-vamp my entire landscape to make it look like you are in a lush getaway resort! My yard is quite large and with only a small window of daylight left in the day, I don’t have a ton of time to get much done so it’s taking me quite some time. I’ve been working out there a few nights per week and I’m still not done yet, but I am exhausted lol.
I’m just wondering how some moms get everything done, plus have time for themselves – like to workout. I have been wanting to work out for weeks now and I feel like it always gets bumped by something else that needs to get done first… either that or by the end of the day I’m just way too tired to even care. It’s really been bothering me lately because I am feeling a little heavier than I have in a very long time… mainly because I cannot keep myself from snacking when my kiddos do and also because I just don’t fit in any time for workouts. I’ve been saying for months that I want to get up early and hit my yoga mat, but with my younger daughter still not sleeping so well, it’s just a pipe dream for me. In the morning, I am like a log laying in bed who needs a good half hour to feel awake after a night of still getting up to console my crying teething daughter… it’s just been too long since I have had good sleep.
So in turn, I definitely don’t mean to complain at all… I know all moms are in my same boat. I guess the key is trying to find a balance and becoming an extreme prioritizer lol. It’s hard but that what makes Moms so strong and determined. I feel like the Cat in the Hat sometimes, when he is standing on the ball holding a million things on his hands, head and tail… and sometimes we fall like he does but then we pick ourselves up and begin that balancing act all over again the next day!
